Summary: Snippet. Radek wakes up unhappy. Werewolf series.

Radek rolled over in bed, coming suddenly and unpleasantly awake as he discovered he was alone. Alone in bed, alone in the room. From the smell of it, Carson had left very recently.

Frowning, Radek wondered if he'd been called away by a medical emergency -- but he would have got a call, and that would have woken Radek up. Radek got out of bed and grabbed his clothes from the floor, dressing quickly.

He headed for the infirmary first. Carson was not there, and the nurses hadn't seen him. No emergency, then, so Radek went just down the hall to Carson's lab.

It was empty -- not too surprising, considering the time of day. Most people weren't up at this hour, unless they'd not yet gone to bed. Radek didn't want to be out of bed, himself. He yawned and frowned, trying to think where else to look.

The control room, perhaps? If he'd gone to consult with something. Or one of the physics labs -- if he'd been called down to use his ATA gene to activate something. But again, a radio call would have woken him.

And why had Carson not told him where he was going?

Radek wandered down the hallway, wishing he were in wolf form. Then he could easily track Carson by his scent. Instead, he would have to do it on foot, checking every likely place.

But perhaps first he would get a cup of coffee from the mess hall. He made a detour at the next intersection, and headed that way. When he drew near, he discovered Carson was there. He hurried the last several yards, rounding the corner to find Carson at the counter, setting a mug on a tray.

Next to another cup. As Radek walked over, he saw two plates on the tray. He smiled as Carson looked over.

"Oh. I thought...." Carson smiled.

"I woke up and you were gone," Radek explained. "I needed coffee so I could be awake to search for you." He yawned again, and reached down to take one of the mugs from Carson's tray. He sniffed it, realised he'd grabbed Carson's mug -- too much sugar for any decent person to drink -- and set it back down and grabbed the other. No cream, no sugar. He took a careful sip.

"Sorry," Carson said. "I thought I'd surprise you with breakfast."

Radek grinned. "Breakfast is wonderful. Waking up to an empty bed is--" He stopped before saying it wasn't worth breakfast. It wasn't, but he did appreciate the intention.

"I thought I'd be back before you woke up." Carson leaned forward and gave him a light kiss.

Radek gave him a frown. "But you were not," he said, exaggerating his trauma. "I woke up and you were *gone*."

Carson rolled his eyes. "Here," he said, pushing the tray into Radek's hand. He set his coffee mug on it and held the tray.

Looking down at the two plates of bacon, toast, sausage and eggs, he asked, innocently, "Are you not having breakfast?"
