Not Like You
sequel to A Treat For You
by James

"Oh, god," Faith sat down for what seemed like the first time all shift. They'd barely gone on duty when they'd received a call to help track down a couple of guys suspected of kidnapping a girl. They'd met up with Menetti and Delacourt at the girl's home where Sergeant Travers had barely let their feet touch the pavement before handing out orders.

They'd let Bosco and Brian investigate the girl's room, picking up her scent as well as the guys who'd apparently broken in through the back window. The girl had been home alone -- the parents, bewildered, had only said that thirteen was old enough to take care of herself. Strangers weren't supposed to be breaking in and stealing their little girl.

Faith had tried not to think about her own daughter, and as soon as Bosco let her know he knew what he was looking for, they'd taken off. Menetti and Brian paced them as they ran off down the street, officers trailing along behind as the two K-9 units tracked her down.

They'd spent damn near the whole night searching -- never once did Bosco or Brian seem to lose the trail. Finally, both wolves had picked up their heads and run -- top speed, and damn if Faith wasn't going to yell at her partner later for nearing leaving her and Menetti behind. They'd torn right into what looked like an abandoned shack in the middle of -- she still wasn't sure exactly where they'd been. A warehouse district. She'd ask someone later, when she was doing up her report.

They'd all burst in to find the guys laughing about what they'd locked up -- safe, and untouched, and terrified when the cops let her out. But she'd grinned with the same glee Faith felt when she saw two huge canines wrestling her captors to the ground.

Faith and Menetti might have taken their time giving the command to back off. Or maybe the two guys were still putting up resistance. She couldn't be sure, now, and no one was going to be reading between the lines in that part of her report, anyhow. "Apprehended the criminals" would be good enough, followed by "saved the girl who was unharmed."

A couple officers had taken the girl away, more still had finally dragged the two guys off to be handcuffed and, eventually, bandaged up. She and Menetti had caught a ride back to their vehicles and sat down on the hood of Menetti's to catch a breath.

"Sometimes I think about working out, more," Menetti said, casually.

"I could use a beer," Faith said, nodding her agreement.

She saw Menetti start the say something, then his gaze shifted past her and he froze. Then he started to grin. He pointed, silently.

She turned her head. Then grinned. "Damn, I need a camera," she whispered.

Bosco had laid down, no doubt figuring no one would scold him for catching a nap on-duty. Not tonight, anyhow. Brian had obviously figured the same thing. They both looked sound asleep.

The part that was going to keep her laughing for a month was the way Brian's head was pillowed on Bosco's chest.
