The Heart Sees Everything
He hates that it had to happen after Caleb. There are a hundred things Xander can think of to be grateful for, to enjoy. Things he wonders why Angel never explained -- though the number of times he and Angel had a conversation about anything can be counted on one hand.
He knows why Spike never said anything, even though the two of them had a few more conversations than he ever did with Angel. One of the things he's grateful for now is that he's no longer troubled by his attraction to Spike.
Nor is he troubled by the grief he felt when Spike died.
But he wishes that one of them were here, now. There are a lot of things they could talk about, and Xander could bitch to someone who would understand about the unfairness of being a vampire with only one eye.
He regenerates from every wound he receives now, including the horrific ones he got before Willow finally died. But his eye is still gone, and he thinks that really sucks.
