A Blustery Sort of Day

"Merry?"

"Yes, Pip?"

"I'm bored."

Merry looked up at Pippin, trying to hide the smile from his face. Pippin was serious about his complaint, and being laughed at for it would only make him sulk. It was really difficult to get a proper snog from pippin when he was determined to sulk.

"What would you like to do, then?" he asked, hoping Pippin would say something that would involve a loss of clothing.

Instead, Pippin just frowned and sat down beside Merry. "I don't know. I'm too bored to even think properly."

"I'm sorry." Merry patted Pippin on the hand. "Maybe next time you won't argue with the gatekeeper about being reincarnated?"

Pippin scowled. "I didn't want to go back as a bear! I didn't know turning him down would mean we'd be stuck here for another twenty years!"

"But I would have been with you, Pip. Isn't that all that matters?"

Pippin glared at him. "And you would have gone back as a piglet! What's the fun in that??"

"So, we'd have been different species--"

"And neither of us would have been anatomically correct!"

Merry blinked at him. "How do you know that?"

Pippin looked smug. "I heard from Boromir. He went back as a rabbit."
