Shopping for curtains!
SGA Zelenka/Sheppard.
John didn't have to look to know Radek was looking at him. Not in a nice way, either, despite the fact John knew Radek had a fine view of his ass. He pointed. "How about those?" He glanced over, when there was no immediate response.
Radek had his arms folded across his chest. "Not those."
"OK." John shrugged. No big deal; he went back to surveying the options -- at least those within sight. He suspected there were more aisles with even more possibilities.
And wasn't that just something to look forward to? Spending all *day* doing this? "How about--"
"Not those, either."
"Well, then *you* pick," John said, turning on his normally enjoyable-to-be-with boyfriend. All right, there were a lot of times when Radek could be a little grumpy, and not so fun to be near. But usually those were times when he'd been in a lab with Rodney for too long, or the city was in danger of being destroyed, or they were in hour two of a half-hour staff meeting. But John had learned to avoid Radek in those situations, and fairly often had the chance to have a mug of coffee, or a beer, or a naked-JOhn waiting for him to perk him back up.
He hadn't expected this to... *annoy* Radek, but then, John had thought it wouldn't have taken all morning, either.
Radek was looking at him like he'd said something stupid, like 'Rodney was polite this morning.' John tried looking cute.
"And how am I supposed to pick?" Radek asked, calmly, as though they hadn't had this conversation when John had first asked why *he* had to come along. John had to admit - silently, in his head - that it was nice, almost domestic. The two of them going on a shopping trip to outfit the quarters they'd been sharing for the last few months.
John shrugged. "You're Atlantis' top engineer. You should be able to recognise the shutters that go over the windows."
"And I have the gene which allows me to trigger them, to know they are window coverings and not random pieces of metal abandoned here with all the other objects we are digging through?"
John sighed. Which was why he'd been pressed into coming along. The warehouse they'd found had no discernible catalog, or even order to the way things were stored. But they'd stumbled upon things to decorate or re-decorate their quarters, and folks had been coming down here for weeks, digging through thigns and finding fixtures that suited their taste. The problem being that several of the fixtures had to be activated in order to be identified, which meant someone with the gene had to go on each shopping trip.
He didn't really mind going shopping for curtains with Radek, but it might have been nicer to do it the old fashioned way. A trip to Sears and arguing over color, and trying not to look like the world's biggest gay couple as they used words like ecru and cinnamon.
"How about those? They look... windowy," John said, and he lead Radek over to another pile. "And grey."
Or maybe he wouldn't have had to worry about it.
