Centaur (HK) Snippet

wolfling gave me, though.
Waiting Days
If he closed his eyes, he could feel the sun's rays heating his back. He could smell the clean, clear air rich with sweet grass and dust. He could taste the water pulled up from the well, flavoured with minerals and run cold by the natural refrigeration of the ground.
If he closed his eyes, he could feel the texture of wheat, growing on the stalk, brushing against his legs. He could feel the earth, hard beneath each step, strong and solid and reassuring. He could see each rail of a fence, each plank in the barn's door, hear the distant whiny of a horse in the paddock, waiting for him to notice her and offer her a run.
He could bring it all, clear and sharp as though he were home, far far away.
But he left his eyes open, because the wide open space of the Texas plains held a lot of beautiful things. But they did not have the beauty sitting across from him, wrapped in fire and passion and laughter. The memories were inside him, but the things he wanted most were still out of reach.
