Xander ran his hand over the fabric. It even felt brown.

"Are you listening?" Giles' exasperated tone penetrated when anything he'd been saying before now hadn't, really. Xander looked at him, and blinked.

"No." If he said he was, then Giles would expect him to answer or respond and Xander had no clue what he'd been talking about. He watched as Giles rolled his eyes and sighed with frustration, and Xander knew he should feel bad. But the sound of his voice was enough, he hadn't needed to tune in to what the other man was saying.

Giles started to say something else, then he stopped and turned around, walking away. Xander watched him head for the kitchen, probably to make himself a cup of 'dear god, what I put up with' tea.

"What does 'exanimate' mean?" Xander called after him. It was the same question he'd asked a few minutes ago, and Giles had been in the middle of talking about something else. If he'd got around to answering, Xander had already tuned out the actual words.

He heard a clunk of a tea cup hitting the counter, and he stood up, leaving Giles' jacket on the couch were he'd been stroking it. He wandered over to the kitchen and found Giles waiting for him, glaring.

Xander waited, patiently.

"You...." Giles pointed a finger at him, and glared a little more.

Xander suddenly didn't feel cold at all, despite the fact he wasn't wearing any clothes.

Giles frowned, sternly, and Xander decided that it was about damn time.
