Snippet #13
Jul. 20th, 2003 06:33 pmBodie
One of these days, he is going to do it. Do...something. He hasn't decided what, exactly. But it'll be something memorable, and decisive, and it will forever wipe that smirk off his partner's face.
He's considered a handful of truly evil things -- but he knows that they're meant to work together for as long as they last, and there's something that tells him that pissing Doyle off for good will make his career as an agent a very, very miserable one. Possibly also short, and Bodie has always been one for staying alive as long as possible, to the point of stacking the odds in his favor.
Even if it means cheating. Even if it means not playing a truly delicious, but very cruel, joke on his insufferable partner.
So he's shelved that whole round of ideas, and is contenting himself to things that won't spark any sort of prank war he can't win. He's also considered and -- so far -- discarded the possibilities which could lead to on-going things of a non-prank-war sort. It would definitely make his job more enjoyable, but he's got the awful feeling that Doyle -- if he didn't just give Bodie a split lip and storm off and never mention it again -- would be the sort to only say yes if he meant it. Commitment, in other words.
Bodie knows he isn't interested in tying himself down that way. But the more days he has to spend with the insufferable prat, the more he thinks that it could be worth it, just to wipe the smug look off his face. If it means finding himself tied down forever... he's beginning to think that wouldn't necessarily be disastrous.
He's willing to do anything to win, even surrender.
